A break for Vivian Maier

A break in the afternoon rain.

A break in the afternoon rain.

While wandering the Amsterdam streets in the cold wet winter, I stumbled upon a photography gallery showing a collection of Vivian Maier images that had been published so far (at the time, the vast majority of her negatives were still undeveloped). The story of Vivian Maier was still newsworthy at this stage and after seeing her images online, I’d been hoping to find an exhibit of her work. It was every bit as good as I had hoped for, and good enough to break the rain and give a short period of late afternoon sunlight to continue strolling under.

Humans have changed the world to such an extent that we’re entering a new geological age; the anthropocene. Edward Burtynsky’ documents this through aerial photographs of man-made landscape, printed on a large scale. An excellent exhibit that you can even see for free.
